Details
New share for sale in a well established private syndicate.

Note that we compile our calendar for Jan 2020 - Jan 2021 shortly in Sept/Oct. Now is an excellent time to join so you can participate in the calendar selection process.

One of our members is also competing in Raceweek so feel free to drop by and say hello. Our berth is on H arm #14 (unless Raceweek organisers relocate us during the event).

The sailing yacht "Scarborough" was built in 2003 and is owned, regularly used and well looked after by a self managed privately run syndicate. Ownership is by "tenants in common in equal shares". Maintenance is arranged using local service providers on the island or at Airlie Beach. A full haulout service including antifoul and keel bolt inspection was completed in May 2018.

Scarborough received a new mast and both standing and running rigging in September 2017. With an easy to use masthead sail plan, she is comfortable to sail in all conditions. The rig includes a slab reefed main with two reefing points and boom bag with lazy jacks. A furling genoa with all sheets and winches operated from the cockpit close to the centrally located helm. She is easily sailed short-handed and features Raymarine instruments and autohelm.

This well-designed cruiser is the three cabin version and features a forward v-berth and two aft double cabins, comfortably sleeping four - five or at a squeeze seven. The saloon and galley feature a gas oven, 12 volt electric fridge/freezer and LPG gas stove ensuring you are fully set up to cater while at sea. A stainless steel gas BBQ is also fitted to rear of the vessel providing another cooking option.

The yacht is equipped with a marine radio featuring two speakers inside and two outside for entertainment.

The Scarborough syndicate currently has a share for sale and interested parties are invited to contact the syndicate manager for further details.

Price AU $14,000 (1/10 share). The use of weeks selected by and still owed to that share in September are not included in the sale however next year's calendar will be compiled in Sept/October so now is a great time to join ready for next year.

Contributions towards annual running costs have ranged around $4k over the past few years. Contributions are compulsory and can vary from year to year according to actual expenses / majority agreed refurb projects. The agreed amount would be paid with at least $1000 by January and the remainder by end of March. Any running cost overruns for the remainder of the calendar year would be dealt with by a call for additional contributions if the need arises. That is still amazing value for a total 5 weeks allocation (2 x 2W & 1 x 1W) a year!

Length 36.42' / 11.10m

In answer to some caller's questions: Scarborough cannot be "chartered out" for Race Week or any other time of the year. She is a private yacht used by her syndicate members.

Survey
This private Syndicate, established in 2010, is self-managed by an appointed Manager/Secretary. Communications between manager and members are mostly by email. The yacht is managed under a set of published rules and conditions. All significant decisions concerning the operation of the yacht are made by majority rule.
Share ownership is conditional upon approval by a majority of existing Syndicate share holders and is subject to the applicant being able to demonstrate that they have relevant sailing experience.
All members must hold a Queensland boating license or have a recognised and valid interstate or overseas marine licence.
Remarks
Annual allocated time is 5 weeks per share holder in 2 x 2 week blocks and 1 x 1 week block. All calendar allocations for the following year are worked out in October. Annual contributions for maintenance, marina costs and other such charges are payable usually in advance by end March early in the year. From time to time additional contributions may be required due to equipment failure, upgrades or unforseen circumstances.

The yacht is registered in Queensland and fully insured. The syndicate enjoys the ongoing use of a marina berth on H arm at the Hamilton Island Marina (not too far from the new IGA).

Unlike charter yachts, Scarborough's cruising range as a privately owned yacht has no geographic restrictions. That said, the yacht is set up for coastal cruising around the Whitsundays only.
