Shares for sale - private yacht syndicate
What is she? Aurora II is a beautiful Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 36i cruising yacht, purchased new in 2011 and fastidiously maintained ever since. She's been regularly sailed on Sydney Harbour, with occasional trips to Pittwater. She's ideal for families, two-handed sailing, relaxed cruising, and casual twilight racing, with the option to step into the odd regatta.
What's she got?
Aurora II is a great Sydney yacht: easy to sail, fun, comfortable, and perfect for weekends away. She's very well set up with extensive extras and safety and wet weather gear. She's currently Category 7 and Category 4 ready for offshore racing. Onboard comforts include a generous cabin layout, two double berths, sleeps 5 adults, hot shower, electric toilet, hot transom shower, TV and DVD, wine cellar, fridge and freezer, two-burner stove, oven, and a cranking stereo for long summer days. She also has two solar panels and a big healthy battery bank that comfortably runs everything day and night.
What's in the kit?
Rigging replaced in 2025. Mainsail 2023. New genoa. Asymmetric spinnaker. Storm jib. (Spare sails in case). Autopilot (2022). Plotter. Radios. Inflatable tender with new 5hp Yamaha 4stroke. Inflatable SUP. Snorkelling gear. Tools.
Shares for sale - how it works.
There are six shareholders. Each shareholder has equal, exclusive access to the boat: around 16 weekend days per year plus approximately 50 weekdays. Bookings are managed through an online calendar.
As a private syndicate, we often sail together. Aurora II also races regularly in the CYCA Wednesday Twilight series and occasionally enters regattas. Racing has been a great way for shareholders to enjoy sailing together and learn how to get the best out of the boat.
We prefer shareholders with sailing experience, or at least a reasonable level of boating experience. That said, there are plenty of excellent sailing courses available in Sydney if you have less experience.
Marcus manages the boat with support from the other shareholders. Full records are kept, including receipts and bank statements for all maintenance and purchases.
Legal and financial details.
The monthly levy is $650 per shareholder. This covers normal running costs including berthing at CYCA, slipping, engine service, insurance, and ongoing maintenance. The budget also allows for improvements such as new sails. There is a $5,000 upfront levy that goes into the sinking fund. A shareholder agreement governs ownership, rights, and share transfers.
How Much?
Shares are $25,000 per-equity-share (plus $5,000 sinking fund per share). On exit, shares are sold at market value, less selling costs.
Can I sell my share?
Yes. Shares can be sold after one year of ownership (unless there are extenuating circumstances), with three months' notice required.
