After 4 years as part of this well run private syndicate, our retirement means it is time for us to spend more money and move on to a catamaran. This means we are selling our 10% share in Scarborough.
Scarborough has been owned by a group of upto 10 like minded people for many years, each share receiving 5 weeks per year sailing the Whitsunday islands. The actual dates of your weeks are allocated by a very fair rotating system where each shareholder picks 2 weeks in turn, then after that round is complete there is another round of 2 week selections followed by a round of 1 week selections.
The cost of the share is $15k with a $ 4k yearly cost (due Jan 27) which pays for maintenance, insurance, permanent berth on Hamo etc. We are offering the share for sale and if desired, the new owner can take up the remaining allocation of sailing we have already paid for this year.
The engine Yanmar 30hp was new around 4 years old with 1933 hrs currently. The boat is aprox an 2003 model and has been in use a lot of the time and has signs of that, but has had professional maintenance regularly carried out.
I couldn't find any more cost effective way to regularly sail the beautiful Whitsundays. Even if the weather doesn't suit, the boat is permanantly berthed on Hamilton island with access to pools, bars, restaurants and walking tracks available to you as you have already paid yearly the berthing fee. You can use the yacht as a motel room on Hamilton island. Anyone who has chartered a boat in the Whitsundays knows that it costs many thousands per week, and that it costs extra per night to stay on Hamilton island.
You will need to have enough sailing experience to safely handle the boat, a boat licence and be acceptable to the syndicate.
Beneteau says that she will sleep 8 in the 3 cabins with the saloon table/ Lounge converted to a fourth double. In practice that would be quite cramped, we usually have 4 adults aboard for a week or more comfortably. Onboard there are all the usual inclusions galley, head, 2 showers, autopilot, 2 yo commercial grade 3.8 mtr RIB with hull cover & 15 HP 4stroke Yamaha.
Everything is in reasonable condition or it is booked in for maintenance or repair as soon as practicable. The syndicate is managed by one member who receives a discount to their yearly payment.
This was our first experience in a shared boat and we found it was much easier than when we previously owned our own boat outright.
The share has 2 weeks sailing attached later this year and this allocation can be bought at the percentage of the yearly cost ie $1600.
If you dont have sailing experience in a similar boat, the syndicate may require you to complete a day skipper course for insurance reasons.

Remarks
We have found the syndicate to be an easy way to continue sailing at a fraction of our previous costs having our own boat moored in the Whitsundays. Non urgent changes, works and upgrades are voted on with a majority deciding.
